Niv Mt. Abu Residency

“NIV” which means foundation / base in Hindi, has been an appropriate place for the young artists, who are in lookout for a platform after they finish their formal training in art. With a focus on facilitating the fundamental necessities for advancement of Arts particularly plastic and new media arts- and a broad vision and outlook on the varied cultural practices.

The goal of the Mt. Abu Residency is to support talented emerging Visual Artists, Media Artists, Music & sound artists, Photographers at all stages of their career with a four week stay in a semi-secluded cottage on the Hills of Mt. Abu. The artist works in serenity of Nature, away from hustle of busy city life. “Niv” sends 2 artists every month to visit and work at Niv Abu Residency, Artist work and exchange ideas to their best and are highly inspired by what Nature inspires them for; the residency also offers a small stipend to aid in their period of stay in the hills. We are also planning to link Niv Mt. Abu Residency as one of the visitor’s spot where people could come and visit the young talent and see them working under one roof. This would help both public and artist to widen their horizon. The works are displayed in the Artist studios, We have 12 studios for painting and 4 studios for sculpture which are approximately 12 x 10 feet cubical in size or at Niv’s official gallery.

Studio & Accommodation information: The residence is not designed as ordinary artists’ studios but there is enough space and ambience for any artist to execute their work of art. It is also suggested to carry all art related materials required for your practice. The Hill House is a two story cottage and no particular room is designated as a work or living space; the cottage has 5 rooms with bath, kitchen a spacious porch and other basic amenities provided to the artists to stay and work; The House can potentially accommodate up to four people at a time.

Location: Mount Abu is a popular hill station in the Aravalli Range in Sirohi district of Rajasthan state in western India near the Gujarat. The mountain forms a distinct rocky plateau which is 22 km long by 9 km wide. The highest peak on the mountain is Guru Shikhar at 1,722 , It is referred to as ‘an oasis in the desert’ as its heights are home to rivers, lakes, waterfalls and evergreen forests. Nearest Railway station is Abu Road Railway station which is 27 km away.
